Medium thick steel plate refers to flat steel with a thickness ranging from 4.5mm to 200mm (some standards extend to 300mm), a width of ≥ 600mm, and a length of ≥ 2000mm. It is one of the core categories of steel plates. Its classification is based on industry standards (such as Chinese GB/T 709-2016 and international ISO standards), forming a clear distinction from thin plates (≤ 4mm) and extra thick plates (>200mm):
Thin plate: focusing on lightweight and stamping forming (such as automotive shells and home appliance panels);
Medium thick plate: Balancing strength, rigidity, and processability, suitable for load-bearing and structural support scenarios;
Extra thick plate: for ultra-high pressure and overload requirements (such as large equipment bases and nuclear power pressure vessels).
Core features:
Diverse materials: mainly made of carbon steel (Q235, Q355, etc.), low-alloy steel, high-strength steel, with some containing alloying elements (such as Mn, Si, Cr) to enhance weather resistance and wear resistance;
Processing performance: capable of mechanical processing such as welding, cutting, bending, drilling, etc., suitable for complex structural splicing;
Mechanical properties: Yield strength ≥ 235MPa (ordinary carbon steel), yield strength of high-strength medium thick plates can reach 460MPa or above, excellent impact resistance and fatigue resistance;
Flexible specifications: Thickness (such as 6mm, 12mm, 20mm, 50mm), width (such as 1500mm, 2000mm), and length can be customized according to requirements, supporting fixed length production.
